Tampon Girls is a short documentary idea uncovering the menstrual health struggles that many girls face from a young age, centered in the UK. Through honest storytelling and lived experience, the film seeks to break the silence surrounding menstrual issues and challenge the normalization of pain and neglect in women’s health.
Josephine van Duren
The project is led by Josephine van Duren, a London-based filmmaker driven by a deep personal
and collective mission to improve menstrual health education. After years of navigating her
own challenges and hearing similar stories from countless women around her, Josephine became
determined to bring this conversation into the light.
Her goal is to inform and empower young girls with knowledge that too often goes untaught —
and to question the widespread idea that suffering is simply “part of being a woman.” With
1 in 3 women experiencing menstrual issues, Josephine believes this reality must be acknowledged,
not accepted. Tampon Girls amplifies the voices that deserve to be heard and invites a much-needed
shift in how society approaches female health.
